Channel your inner surfer

I haven't told too many people this, but I absolutely love anything that has to do with surfing. I love the ocean, the waves, the sun, the surf vibe and of course, the surfers. You may ask...are you a surfer? The answer is, sadly, no. I have body surfed and boogie boarded. I have snorkeled, swam with sharks, sting rays and other sea life, but never actually surfed. Growing up on the west coast beaches of California (a 6 hour drive from the surface of the sun in Phoenix), I only knew that type of dark ocean water. Swimming in dark water freaked me out, so I couldn't pursue my love. I didn't realize there were beautiful, clear oceans in other parts of the world until years later. So I continue to get my fix through endless hours of watching surfing documentaries. My family thinks I'm nuts, but that's fine.

In the surfing documentary I watched over the weekend, I began to think about what my deep connection to surfing really meant. Why did I have such a passion for surfing? I came to the following conclusions:

1. Riding a wave defies what we should be able to do with our bodies.

2. There is such a rush of adrenaline and passion that you see in the surfer and we all secretly crave that feeling of exhilaration.

3. Sun, salt, and sand are a virtuous blend - they can change your mood in a second.

4. Oceans have a positive impact on human health - it's so healing to be in water and maybe even more healing to connect with sea life.

5. The best way to forget your daily problems is to face bigger challenges.

6. There is no wave that is alike - every single one is different - that makes each wave even more beautiful.

7. As you progress, you're compelled to surf better each day.

8. There are incredibly beautiful oceans around the world to be explored - I have been to Tahiti twice and now know of the immense beauty out there.

9. Surfers live life with such freedom - we all choose how we live even though we may think we don't have a choice.

10. Surfing requires you to LIVE IN THE MOMENT and time can seem like it's standing still - you literally feel alive.

I encourage you to go channel your inner surfer as you move through life by finding what lights you up. I also recommend you find a way to see as many oceans around the world as you can. My experience in Tahiti was magical and transformed my life in so many ways. I truly felt like time slowed down. Intentionally choose how you want to see the world each day. Realize that much of what you perceive is temporary and can be changed. Find a way to get closer to your passion, your freedom, so that you can live in the moment and truly feel alive.
