What if…

I've decided that I have so much to learn. Yep...I've finally realized I don't know everything. Ok...I'm sort of kidding. Let me explain.

Being a mom to two humans in their 20s is truly the key to my humbling awareness. I will admit that there was a point when I thought I knew more than they did. Well, no longer can I hang on to that belief. Don't get me wrong...I still push back on ideas that seam preposterous or could lead to me having to bail them out of jail or give them money. 😊 I'm beyond grateful that my kids actually WANT to share their ideas with me. I work very hard to listen and really understand what they are saying.

Here's the interesting part. The world is changing at a faster pace than ever and it's only going to speed up more by the day. Take a breath and consider other perspectives. You'll find super valuable nuggets of new information to learn along with countless amazing experiences that weren't on your radar. Our younger generations are walking through life with a different foundation of experiences, beliefs, values, understandings, fears, restrictions...the list goes on. When you remove this layer, a whole new world of opportunity opens up.

  • What if...you placed more importance on your time with family and friends than you do on your work?

  • What if...you didn't work 40+ hours/week and instead built your life around less annual income?

  • What if...you held a profession that truly made you happy or switched jobs numerous times so you could explore what you love?

  • What if...you embraced what you don't know and let someone younger help you?

  • What if...you didn't buy a house and stay in one place forever?

  • What if...you didn't let tattoos, clothing, hairstyle or piercings determine who you formed relationships with?

  • What if...you fully embraced the diversity of people - race, religion, sexual orientation, gender orientation, etc.?

  • What if...you sought to understand cultural nuances around the world?

Much of what we believe is deeply embedded in our understanding of the world. We were taught what to believe. It might take a bit of work to shake things up in your head. Don't give up early on. Keep asking yourself - WHY DO I BELIEVE THAT? WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I CHANGED MY BELIEF?
